There's a time and a place for writing. And there's a time and a place for reading websites about writing, when you're not actually writing. Here at The Monkey Collective, we do all that we can to aid the vital process of procrastination.
Below is a list of sites with useful tools, writing competition listings and other pleasant things to read about to while away the hours. Some of them have even been kind enough to host details of our short story competition:
Almond Press - an independent publisher of dystopian fiction based in Scotland.
Christopher Fielden - get tips on writing short stories, find some excellent examples, and much more besides.
Firstwriter.com - contains writing resources, as well as details of agents and publishers.
HISSAC (The Highlands and Islands Short Story Association) - HISSAC run an annual short story and flash fiction competition, as well as offering a mentoring scheme and opportunities for feedback on your writing.
Writers Reign - provides resources, free online courses and listings of upcoming competitions.
Finished your novel? Check out Inkitt. You can get feedback on your novel, and if the responses are positive enough, they'll publish your story. They've got a great track record of getting books to the top of the bestseller lists, too!
